Ralph F. Shank, Jr., 77, of Paradise, passed away at LGH on Monday, November 23, 2015 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late E. Kay (Rynier) Shank, who passed away in 2005. Ralph graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1956. He served in the US Army and Army Reserves. He worked in engineering for UGI Corporation, retiring after 48 years. Ralph was member of Leacock Presbyterian Church, where he had served as a Deacon.
He was a life member of Paradise-Leaman Place and Gordonville Fire Companies. Ralph volunteered with the Gordonville Ambulance and the former East Lampeter Ambulance, all for many years. He served as Chairman of the Annual Gordonville Fire Company Spring Sale until recently.
He was a member of Paradise Area Lions Club, former member of the PA Jaycees, served on the Paradise Township 300th Anniversary committee and helped to write the Paradise Township 300th Anniversary book.
He was a Judge of Elections for Paradise Township for over 35 years.
Ralph volunteered with many annual fund raising events and community functions. He enjoyed playing Santa Claus, and did so for many years. He played the Reading Wizard with UGI volunteer programs reading to school children. Ralph had a kind heart and was dedicated to helping others and serving his community.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Ralph F. Shank, Sr., and was raised by his Father and his Aunts, Elizabeth and Dorothy Shank. He is survived by a daughter, Robbin married to Dean Englehart, Jr. of Paradise; a grandson, Stephan Englehart of Paradise, a granddaughter, Mandy married to Erick Shope of Columbia; and a sister, Joan married to Karl Koons of Mechanicsburg.
There will be a viewing on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM in the Bachman Funeral Home, 7 South Decatur Street, Strasburg, PA. There will also be a viewing on Saturday, November 28, from 10 until 11 AM at the Leacock Presbyterian Church, 3181 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise, PA. The funeral will be held at 11 AM in the church with The Reverend Robert Birch officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
