As The Storm Sandy Heads This Way Be Prepared

Hurricane Sandy, churning in the Atlantic now, will have a MAJOR impact on our region, Sunday thru Wednesday. Gov Corbett has already declared a State of Emergency and Flash Flood Warnings have been issued. If you have not done so, please prepare for possible power outages and lots of wind/rain. Just a few ideas: have flashlights and extra batteries on hand, a battery powered radio, bottled water, canned food, extra blankets, gas (for generator) and a first aid kit.. if you have a cell phone, make sure it's charged and ready.. if you are driving, slow down and never drive thru standing water - wipers and headlights ON.. anything outside that could be lifted and tossed by the wind, secure it or move it indoors.. Check on your neighbors and the elderly, please bring dogs and pets inside.. BE SAFE out there

Get an Emergency Supply Kit An emergency supply kit is a vital part of emergency preparedness. When a disaster happens, basic services such as electricity, gas, water, sewage treatment and telephones may be cut off for days, or even a week or longer. Or, you may need to evacuate at a moment's notice. Once the emergency happens, there won't be time to go shopping or try to find and gather together all the essential items you will need. When disaster strikes, having an emergency supply kit ready will save you precious time and just might just save your life.
Because it may take several days for emergency services to be able to assist you in a disaster, your emergency supply kit should contain enough food, water and supplies to sustain you and your family a minimum of three days. Because you never know when or where an emergency will occur, you should also consider having a kit ready in your vehicle as well as where you work.
Find an emergency supply kit item checklist:
  • For Your Home
  • For Your Vehicle
  • For the Workplace

Picture
IF You Have an Emergency Or After an emergency is over, there is still a great potential for danger. When you plan what you will do before and during a disaster, be sure to include a plan for afterward as well. What you do next can save your life and the lives of others:
